Odisha leads India in PMAY-U 2.0 housing completions

Bhubaneswar: Odisha has emerged as the top-performing state in the country in completion of houses under Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana-Urban (PMAY-U 2.0), with the state consistently ranking number one since March 2025, officials said.Since the launch of PMAY-U 2.0 in Sept 2024, Odisha has shown steady progress in providing affordable housing to urban beneficiaries. From March 2025 to March 2026, the state maintained the highest house completion among all states.Official data show that a total of 24,625 houses have been sanctioned under PMAY-U 2.0 in Odisha so far. Of these, 23,464 proposed sites have already been geo-tagged. Foundation work has begun for 3,134 houses, while 2,008 houses were completed as on May 5.The remaining houses are at various stages of construction. Housing and urban development department attributed the performance to close coordination with urban local bodies and faster execution at ground level.Officials expressed confidence that the remaining targets would be achieved within the stipulated timeline. Krushna Chandra Mahapatra, housing and urban development minister, directed officials to further expedite the construction works.Mahapatra asked the officials to complete the remaining houses ahead of schedule. He stressed the need for timely execution, adherence to quality standards and quick delivery of benefits to eligible urban poor families.
