Bhubaneswar: National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) officials, on conclusion of their five-day inquiry into the recent
lynching of railway constable Soumya Ranjan Swain, said on Friday that they questioned ADG-ranked IPS officer Dayal Gangwar in connection with the case.
“We have recorded his statements. Several other police officers, family members of the deceased, eyewitnesses and the woman who had accused him of rape bid were also examined. Their statements will now be analysed,” an NHRC official said.
Gangwar was shunted on May 25 and given an inconsequential posting as officer on special duty in the home department. Swain’s family accused him of subjecting the constable to mental harassment and using him as domestic help, which they allege aggravated his depression.
Gangwar, who could not be reached for comment, has so far refrained from making any public statement on the controversy.
