Kendrapada: Some miscreants uprooted and physically carried away the ATM machine loaded with cash in a van, at Mainda Chhack under Binjharpur police station in Jajpur district on Thursday night.
As per the nearby CCTV footage, around five unidentified men arrived in a van, entered the ATM kiosk, uprooted the machine from its base and took it away in the van, said IIC, Binjharpur police station, Ranjan Kumar Mallick.
The gang later dismantled the ATM machine and fled with the cash after pushing the van into a field nearly 300 metre from Mainda Chhack.
Preliminary information suggests that the ATM contained more than Rs 5 lakh cash at the time of the
robbery. Our investigation also reveals that miscreants seemed to have used axes, gas cutters and hammers to smash the ATM after looting it. “The ATM has no security guard at night. We have pressed a sniffer dog and engaged a scientific team to probe the case,” added the police officer.
