Bhubaneswar: Students who have cleared Annual Higher Secondary Examination (AHSE)-2026 will now get another opportunity to improve their grades. The Council of Higher Secondary Education (CHSE) will, from this year, conduct an improvement examination for the students who have cleared the AHSE, but wish to improve their scores in one subject, announced school and mass education minister Nityananda Gond on Wednesday.
Under the new provision, designed on the lines of the Central Board of Secondary Education's (CBSE's) improvement examination system, students will be allowed to appear for an exam in any one subject of their choice to improve their grades. "This will help students achieve better results and compete in national-level examinations," the minister said.
The improvement examination will be conducted along with the instant examination in the first week of July, CHSE controller of examinations Prasanta Kumar Parida said. Instant examinations are held for the students who have failed in one subject but secured a minimum aggregate of 210 marks out of a total score of 600, Parida added.
The improvement examination will be open to both regular and ex-regular students.
Parida further said that the notification and detailed modalities for both the improvement and instant examinations will be published by the CHSE on May 27. Students can visit their respective colleges to fill up the forms.
The fee for the instant examination will be Rs 620, while that for improvement exam is Rs 820.
"The results of both the instant and improvement examinations will be published within 60 days of the exam," Parida said.
The CBSE allows students, who have passed their board examinations, to reappear in one or more subjects to improve their scores, mainly for college admissions and competitive cut-offs.
