BHOPAL: A woman was allegedly beaten with sticks in a field following a dispute over plucking mangoes in Shahdol district. A video of the assault went viral on social media on Thursday.
The incident took place on Wednesday afternoon in Lalpur village under Singhpur police station limits. Police have registered a case against four accused persons under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and launched an investigation.
The victim, identified as Meena Kushwaha, was in the field along with her husband when an argument reportedly broke out with some villagers over plucking mangoes from a tree located on the farmland.
According to the complaint, the accused allegedly attacked the woman. Meena alleged that Kuldeep Pandey, Dharmendra Pandey, Pushpendra Pandey and Manjit Pandey abused her before assaulting her with sticks and stones, causing serious injuries. She also alleged that the accused threatened to kill her during the attack. Family members later admitted the injured woman to hospital for treatment. Police said a person present at the spot recorded the assault on a mobile phone.
The video later surfaced online and spread rapidly across social media platforms. A case has been registered against four accused persons. Investigation is underway on the basis of the victim’s complaint, the viral video and other available evidence. Police said efforts are on to arrest the accused and further action will be taken after investigation.
