Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar: Shiv Sena (UBT) MP from Parbhani Sanjay, alias Bandu Jadhav — amid continuing speculation over his political future — is "certain" about quitting the party, BJP Parbhani district president Suresh Bhumre said on Tuesday.
While publicly urging Jadhav to make a swift decision and join BJP, Bhumre said "He (Jadhav) should not delay his decision as prolonged uncertainty could frustrate the voters."
He added, "His decision to leave the party is final. The only confusion is whether to join the BJP or Shiv Sena. He should not waste time now."
Speculation over Jadhav's exit from the UBT has been rife for nearly two months. The MP and his several supporters skipped two key meetings convened in Mumbai at Matoshree and Shiv Sena Bhavan, signalling dissent within the party ranks.
Senior Sena (UBT) leader Ambadas Danve had toured Parbhani district last week to assess the situation and contain possible damage. The buzz intensified after Jadhav, at a public event three days ago, made remarks that were seen as fuelling the defection talk. Soon after, party chief Uddhav Thackeray removed a district chief considered close to Jadhav — a move seen as a pre-emptive action to avoid further damage to the party.
While targeting Jadhav, Bhumre also took exception to his recent statement that politics had become money-driven. "Politics is not about money, it is about development. He has been an MP for 12 years, but there has been no significant development work. Perhaps he is now realising this," Bhumre said.
He added that Jadhav was inclined towards joining the BJP as he had understood that development was possible only under its leadership. "Under PM Narendra Modi at the Centre and CM Devendra Fadnavis in state, development is taking place. If he wants to contribute, BJP is the only option," Bhumre said.
