Police conduct midnight crackdown on drunk driving; 12 caught

Prayagraj: In a step towards checking tipsy driving, the Pratapgarh police on Saturday night carried out a special checking drive at Kotila Akhtiyari toll plaza on Prayagraj-Lucknow highway and caught 12 truck drivers under the influence of alcohol.

The drive was carried out between between 9 pm and 12 midnight in a joint intensive checking drive by the Pratapgarh traffic police and the Hathigawan Police.

Led by Traffic inspector Manoj Kumar and Hathigawan police station In-charge Satyendra Singh, police teams checked 120 drivers with the help of breath analyzers passing through the toll plaza. Taking immediate action, the police imposed a fine of Rs 10,000 on each of the offending drivers and compounding fees (challans) amounting to Rs 1,20,000 was realised.

A senior cop said, “The police has appealed motorists to strictly adhere to road safety regulations. He added, “We have also urged drivers not to drive under the influence of alcohol as your safety is the foundation of your family’s happiness”. Similar strict action will continue to be taken in the future against those who violate traffic laws.”
