Criminal injured in encounter

Prayagraj: A wanted criminal, carrying a cash reward of Rs 25,000 was injured and arrested in a police encounter in Kaushambi on Saturday night.The criminal, identified as Raees Ahmed, sustained bullet injury and was admitted to the district hospital for treatment. A country-made pistol of 0.315 bore, one used and one unused cartridge, and Rs 2,070 cash was recovered from his possession.A senior cop said a team of Manjhanpur police was conducting routine checks near Santoo Ka dera , Hanzapur Road when they noticed a suspicious man roaming to execute a crime.The cops surounded him but he opened fire. The police retaliated and left the criminal injured in exchange of fire.Police said Raees, a resident of Turtipur of Kaushambi, has 11 criminal cases pending against him in Kaushambi and other districts. He was involved in cattle smuggling and theft cases.
