Two Indian-origin men arrested in US with 300 pounds of cocaine; ICE wants custody
Gurpreet Singh and Jasveer Singh, two Indian-origin men, have been arrested by the Indiana police after a routine inspection of their vehicle led to the discovery of 300 pounds of cocaine inside the semi they were in. The stash of cocaine is valued at an estimated 7 million dollars, police said. A trooper pulled over a blue International semi tractor-trailer on I-70 at the 41-mile marker for a routine transport department compliance inspection. There were tip-offs that the semi was carrying drugs and that's why it was stopped for a routine check. The trooper found more than 300 pounds of cocaine in the sleeper berth of the truck.
DHS Scales Back ICE Raids As Backlash Grows Against Trump’s Hardline Immigration Crackdown
25-year-old Gurpreet Singh and 30-year-old Jasveer Singh -- both from California -- were taken into custody and are being held in the Putnam County Jail. Both men have ICE deportation holds placed on them. They have been charged with dealing narcotics, a level two felony. California has earned a bad name after several foreign-origin truck drivers were found to be lawbreakers who got their commercial driver's licenses in the state. The Trump administration set a January 5 deadline for California to crack down on thousands of immigrants who got licenses in California.
But California announced delays and pushed the move to cancel these licenses until March. The issue of foreign drivers getting licenses easily in California came to light when Harjinder Singh, an illegal immigrant from India, killed three people in Florida in August 2025 after he attempted to take an illegal U-turn. His CDL was issued in California.
