PM Modi Gets Birthday Call from Trump Hours After Trade Talks; Russia-Ukraine Conflict Discussed

US President Donald Trump’s birthday call to Prime Minister Narendra Modi has signaled a potential easing of tensions between the two nations. The conversation, described positively by both sides, came on the same day India and the US wrapped up a round of trade talks. Trump praised Modi’s leadership and thanked him for supporting efforts to end the Russia-Ukraine conflict. Modi, in turn, appreciated the gesture and reaffirmed India’s commitment to strengthening the bilateral partnership. This was their first direct interaction since Trump’s decision to double tariffs on Indian exports over Russian oil purchases last month, which had stalled trade talks. The call is being seen as a step toward restoring momentum in the ongoing trade negotiations.
