The aftershocks of Operation Sindoor continue to reverberate across Pakistan’s power structure. India’s Chief of Defence Staff General Anil Chauhan has disclosed that Islamabad was compelled to rush through constitutional and military reforms after the operation exposed deep command and coordination failures. Pakistan’s decision to scrap the Joint Chiefs system and centralise authority under a single defence commander, the CDS warned, reflects insecurity rather than strength and could trigger internal instability. Addressing India’s own reforms, Gen Chauhan clarified that the CDS operates through collective responsibility, not personal command, ensuring jointness across services and new domains of warfare. He stressed that while future conflicts will increasingly rely on technology and non-kinetic means, India must stay ready for brutal contact warfare against both Pakistan and China. Drawing lessons from Sindoor, Balakot, Doklam and Galwan, the CDS said India is close to implementing a standardised, integrated theatre command structure.
