During a tense hearing before the House Appropriations Committee, U.S. lawmaker Michael Dennis Rogers pressed General Carnie on the growing military capabilities of China’s People’s Liberation Army. In a candid admission ahead of Trump's U.S. visit, the general acknowledged the blistering pace of Chinese military production, warning that Beijing is rapidly expanding its defense-industrial capacity across multiple domains. He stressed that the United States is now racing to match that speed to maintain credible deterrence “across all fronts.” The remarks underscored mounting concern in Washington over China’s accelerating weapons buildup, naval expansion, and advanced warfare capabilities amid intensifying great-power competition.
