Tensions in the Persian Gulf escalated on Sunday after the United Arab Emirates (UAE) claimed it intercepted two Iranian drones targeting its territory. According to the UAE Defence Ministry, both drones were “successfully engaged” before they could reach their targets. The latest incident adds to growing instability across the region amid the ongoing conflict that began on February 28. Emirati officials allege that Iran has launched more than 2,265 drones, 551 ballistic missiles, and 29 cruise missiles toward the UAE since the start of hostilities. Iran and its allied armed groups are known to possess a large and expanding drone arsenal, increasingly used as a central element of regional warfare.
