Donald Trump on Sunday threatened, if elected president, to prosecute Hillary Clinton over her email use as secretary of state.

Clinton responded: "It's just awfully good that someone with the temperament of Donald Trump is not in charge of the law of our country," prompting the Republican to fire back: "Because you'd be in jail."

He says he has never kissed or groped women without consent. And he's continuing to characterize the recording as "locker room talk."

Debate moderator Anderson Cooper put it more bluntly, saying, "That is sexual assault." Trump responded: "No, I didn't say that at all. I don't think you understand what I said." Trump continually tried to pivot to foreign policy, seemingly suggesting his comments pale in comparison to the actions of the Islamic State.

She was the first of four women to speak at an unusual pre-debate meeting with Trump in St. Louis as the Republican presidential nominee tried to shine a spotlight on the sexual transgressions of Hillary Clinton's husband. Jones offered a message about Trump: "They should all look at the fact that he is a good person. He is not what other people are saying he's being.'' In 1998, Bill Clinton agreed to an $850,000 settlement with Jones. She was an Arkansas state worker who accused Bill Clinton of exposing himself and making indecent proposition when Clinton was governor. The settlement included no apology or admission of guilt.

The second presidential debate is shaping up as potentially Donald Trump's final opportunity to keep his campaign from collapsing a month before Election Day.

With prominent Republicans already abandoning him in droves, other Republicans, including leaders in Congress, are looking to the debate to see whether Trump shows enough contrition to stand by him despite his vulgar comments about women. There's been uncertainty about whether the Republican Party might shift resources away from his campaign in the final weeks or even try to replace him on the ticket.

NBC has suspended "Today" show personality Billy Bush indefinitely for his role in the recently surfaced videotape of Donald Trump's crude conversation about women. "Today'' show Executive Producer Noah Oppenheim said in a memo that "there is simply no excuse for Billy's language and behavior on that tape.'' NBC has suspended Bush from his job as host of the "Today'' show's third hour, "pending further review of the matter.''

In a stunningly brazen move, Donald Trump met Sunday night with several women who have accused Bill Clinton of rape and other unwanted sexual advances, just over an hour before the Republican presidential nominee was stepping on the debate stage with the former president's wife, Hillary Clinton.

The Trump pre-debate event was the clearest sign yet that he planned to use Bill Clinton's extramarital affairs to try to distract from the swirling controversy over his own predatory remarks about women.

For this debate, the candidates will be allowed to move around the stage. That adds a new dynamic, especially given the size differential between the 6-foot-3 Trump and Clinton, who's closer to 5-foot-5.

Clinton will have her own leaked comments to contend with. Leaked transcripts of her private, paid speeches had her expressing support in 2013 for "open trade and open borders." Expect Trump to try to capitalize on the revelation.

Clinton has to decide how best to capitalize on the latest revelations about Trump without overdoing it. With both undecided voters and debate moderators allowed to ask questions of the candidates, Clinton could choose to stand by and let them prosecute the issue as they see fit. Or the famously well-rehearsed Clinton could work up some artful ways to make sure those Trump remarks remain in focus all night.

After watching his standing slip in the polls after the first debate, Round 2 was supposed to be Trump's chance to turn things around. That's a steeper climb now. Can Trump keep calm and debate on in the midst of the chaos?
