Of course there are many attractions in London that can give you incredible vistas of the city. However, the world’s largest cantilevered observation wheel is rotates you ever so slowly (one complete rotation takes 30 minutes), giving you a uniquely different perspective of the capital as your capsule gradually reaches the 135 m apex of the ride. This is your chance to hover above and be intimately close to the Houses of Parliament that appear to the south on the compass, when viewing from ‘the eye,’ and offers a full sweep of the River Thames. Looking west you can see Buckingham Palace and Hyde Park; looking north, St Paul’s Cathedral and Canary Wharf; and finally looking east you can watch trains arriving and departing from Waterloo Train station. Passengers on ‘the eye’ are enclosed in a egg-shaped glass capsule, providing unrivalled views vertically and horizontally, giving one a sense of floating like a butterfly over central London. There is even a chance to hire one of the 32 capsules exclusively for you and your group, if you prefer to see London’s skyline with only your friends and family. Every year on the 31st of December, the ‘London Eye’ becomes the centre of global attention as an incredible firework display rockets from the structure in every direction creating a spectacle of light, architecture and celebration during the 15-minute set.
