Storkyrkan - Stockholm Cathedral

Imagine a royal wedding inside Stockholm's oldest building
Noteworthy for: Most associate the cathedral with its impressive oak statue of St. George and the Dragon, which represents a Swedish victory in one of its many battles with Denmark.

Nestled in Gamla Stan, Storkyrkan is Stockholm's oldest building, dating back to the late 13th century. These days it looks nothing like the original; the exterior was given a Baroque makeover in the mid-18th century to please annoyed citizens, who hated its middle-ages look.
The building is historically the site where King Gustaf Vasa, widely regarded as the father of Sweden, was persuaded to change the national religion from Catholicism to Protestantism in 1527. Since 1942, it has been the mother church of the Stockholm diocese, and it offers regular services, concerts and the occasional royal wedding (the current king and queen, as well as The Crown Princess Victoria, were married here).

Within the church you'll find various elaborate statues of saints, a beautiful baroque pulpit, and the painting 'Vädersolstavlan' (The Sun Dog Painting) ¬Рa halo display, which is thought to be one of the oldest paintings depicting Stockholm city.
