Drottningholm Palace

Built in the 17th century, the Drottningholm Palace remains the private residence of the royal family till today. It is a popular tourist attraction of Stockholm, where visitors get to experience the insides of the royal families of Sweden. Apparently, Drottningholm Palace is among the most impressive historic and well-preserved palace in Stockholm, also recognised as a UNESCO World Heritage site. The palace has been designed by architect Nicodemus Tessin the Elder, whose fascination with the contemporary Baroque style is reflected in the staircase, the Ehrenstrahl Drawing Room and Hedvig Eleonora’s State Bedchamber. Tessin’s son completed his father’s work after the former died in 1681. Drottningholm still has the magnificent salons from the bygone era, a beautiful park, a unique palace theatre and a Chinese Pavilion. The palace and the park are mostly open to visitors all year round. Watch out for the Drottningholm Palace Theatre, the best preserved theatre in Europe, from the 18th century and the only one that still uses the original stage machinery.
