Free open air theatre and cultural shows all over Stockholm
Word to the wise: If you want a nice view, come at least an hour early. Parkteatern is wildly popular, and Stockhomers have a lot of patience.
Dating back to 1942 - in the middle of a war - it's hard to imagine that such a cultural initiative came about. And today, people still come - dressed up or down - in their hoards to watch the shows, with a hamper of goodies and a bottle of wine.
It goes without saying that most of the theatre performances are in Swedish, though concerts and the varied dance shows raging from ballet to street dance dance-offs can usually be universally understood. Last year Parkteatern put on some English language shows - a medley of scenes from Shakespeare's best-loved plays and a contemporary circus act - which made things a little easier.
