Daksa

A trip to Daksa is different from regular weekend getaways. This is a trip meant for the brave hearted, curious travellers because the thought of going to Daksa or the 'ghost island’ is scary. Daksa is an uninhabited island, which is notorious for the Nazi massacre, in which about 53 prisoners were executed without trial, and their bodies left to rot across the island. Locals believe that their angry spirits are still roaming in the area, hungry for revenge. This intriguing and horrifying past makes it an avoidable destination for most tourists. But the ones who do make their way there find themselves in a beautiful picturesque thickly wooded town, which is covered in pine, lemon and orange trees. It boasts of a spacious villa, a boathouse, dock and its own 19th century lighthouse with spectacular views. If it hadn’t been for the dark shadow hanging on Daksa's history and the superstitions and beliefs attached to it, Daksa would have been like any other European town and a tourist magnet. But despite all its attractive qualities, very few are willing to stay there for fear of the wrath of the spirits—the island is up for sale at a low price, but there are no buyers at all.
