Bari

Bari is a port city, which lies on the Adriatic Sea. As the second largest town in southern Italy, Bari is a very busy port and is connected to Greece, Albania and Croatia. It is about 212 km away from Dubrovnik and a ferry is the best way to reach Bari. The city is popular for being an entrance door for Italy and many travellers come here on ferries from neighbouring countries. It is home to a large university due to which there are many students in the city. Their presence lends a youthful and hipper air to Bari. This also means there are several bars and restaurants open through the night. The city is also dotted with eateries to suit different palates.

The ancient part of the city is referred to as Bari Vecchia (Old Bari) by the locals. It is a beautiful neighbourhood worth exploring. Try not to miss the Basilica of Saint Nicholas with its intricate gold ceiling—it is widely believed that it contains the bones of St Nicholas (aka Santa Claus).
Bari might be a small town but boasts of an international airport and has a lot to offer. A weekend spent here can be an enriching experience.
