Minister for water resources Subhash Shirodkar on Tuesday said that all pending issues concerning rehabilitation of people displaced by the Salaulim irrigation project would be settled within the next one year.

The Selaulim and Anjunem dams will be taken up for repairs with the Centre sanctioning Rs 58 crore for Goa under phase II of the Dam Rehabilitation and Improvement Project (DRIP), a World Bank-backed project. The Union ministry for Jal Shakti said that the repairs will help improve the safety and operational performance of the two dams, which are part of the 736 dams being taken up for repairs across the country.

Minister for water resources Subhash Shirodkar commissioned the lift irrigation scheme project at Molcornem, Sanguem, on the World Water Day, in presence of social welfare minister Subhash Phal Dessai and Fatorda MLA Vijai Sardesai.

The water resources department (WRD) has decided to declare the area around Selaulim dam a ‘no alcohol zone,’ following several complaints of littering and miscreants creating ruckus.

"The developer has in the acquired portion of the land now constructed a building as a part of its project.

The water resources department has received complaints regarding large scale pollution of rivers in Sanguem and Quepem taluka due to mining activities.

Even as summer heats up, water levels at the Anjunem reservoir were recorded at just 18% on Wednesday.

The water level in the Anjunem reservoir has dipped to 7% of its capacity. The Anjunem reservoir is Goa’s second largest reserve of water after the Selaulim one. It provides water for treatment to meet drinking requirements in parts of Bardez, Bicholim and Sattari.
