A 25-year-old man has been arrested for the murder of a 65-year-old man in Koraput district. The victim was found dead with multiple injuries and a slit throat. The accused confessed to attacking the victim with a stone and a knife following a quarrel.

In a major success in its fight against ganja smuggling, Koraput police arrested a dreaded ganja mafia following an exchange of fire at Jeypore early on Wednesday. Police said the arrested criminal was identified as Kabul Khara, 31, a resident of Umuri, under jeypore sadar police limits.

At least five police personnel and a villager were injured during a tussle between security personnel and agitating people who blocked NH 26 on the outskirts of Jeypore town on Wednesday night.

About 301kg ganja worth more than Rs 3 crore in the international market was seized in the district on Tuesday. Four persons, including two Uttar Pradesh residents and a Haryana native, were arrested in this connection.
