Japanese filmmaker hikari has been chosen to direct a new comedy-drama film titled 'Rental Family'. The story follows a struggling actor in Tokyo who becomes a token American for a Japanese rental family company, leading to a journey of self-discovery. hikari, who most recently directed episodes of 'Beef', will also produce the project. Principal photography for 'Rental Family' will begin soon in Japan.

Japanese filmmaker hikari has been tapped by streaming platform Netflix to direct its comedy drama series "Beef".

Coming in October 2025, Wandance, an anime based on Coffee's manga, follows Kaboku Kotani, a shy high schooler, who discovers dance through hikari Wanda. Madhouse and Cyclone Graphics are producing the series for Disney+, featuring K-pop choreographer RIEHATA and director Michiya Kato, who is using motion capture to realistically animate the dances. It's a coming-of-age story about self-expression and friendship.
