BANGALORE: The last time
Rahul Dravid had addressed the media in Bangalore outside of his cricketing career was just before the Karnataka State Cricket Association elections in November 2010.
He spoke to a select gathering about his endorsing of the candidature of the likes of
Anil Kumble and
Javagal Srinath, who had selflessly decided to give something back to the game. Dravid was in the midst of a Test series then but was speaking up as he felt Karnataka cricket needed a different direction.
On Tuesday, at the Chinnaswamy Stadium, when the recently retired Dravid spoke as part of the KSCA Managing Committee, briefing the media on the All India Shafi Darashah tournament the KSCA are all set to host, it showed how this new team at the KSCA were projecting themselves differently.
In a conscious effort, with decentralization as the theme, different people have been tasked with the responsibility of being the face of the association, when in the past it has mostly been the secretary and/or president who were at the forefront.
Now, if Venkatesh Prasad, one of the vice-presidents, is in the forefront one day, the other day it is Dravid. Of course, one of Anil Kumble and Javagal Srinath, the president and secretary, are usually around but they quietly become the support staff on such occasions.
Not a bad way to function, we dare say.
