Patrick Mahomes’ reaction to Myles Garrett’s new record shows his respect for greatness goes beyond the Chiefs
Patrick Mahomes may not have been on the field for the past few Chiefs games, but his presence around the NFL was still felt, with the team facing shocking losses. With the Kansas City Chiefs already eliminated and the star quarterback sidelined by a knee injury, Mahomes spent the final week of the season watching other teams play.
His attention extended far beyond his own team, even praising achievements that he deemed significant. When Cleveland Browns pass rusher Myles Garrett reached a historic milestone, Mahomes did not hesitate to congratulate him. Garrett has had a very impressive run this season, and for Mahomes to notice and compliment is a big deal
Late in the fourth quarter, the breakthrough finally arrived. Garrett beat left tackle Orlando Brown Jr., closed in on Burrow, and secured his 23rd sack of the season. The play pushed him past the previous single-season record of 22.5 held by Michael Strahan and T.J. Watt. Paycor Stadium erupted as Garrett celebrated, and Cleveland’s 20-18 win was the icing on the cake.
Mahomes was ecstatic with his congratulatory remarks on X, writing, “Congrats! @Flash_Garrett,” Garrett later replied, writing, “Thank you Brotha.” Other stars joined in, including Micah Parsons, who called Garrett legendary, while Texas A&M Football proudly named him the new sack king. Mahomes later showed the same appreciation closer to home.
While watching Kansas City face the Raiders, he celebrated Travis Kelce reaching 13,000 receiving yards, as he wrote “13K!” on X. The QB may have been on the sidelines due to his injury, but he made time to recognize and appreciate greatness on the field irrespective of where it comes from.
