NBA injury report: Is Cam Thomas playing Friday? Brooklyn Nets star sidelined as team hit setback amid late-season surge
The Brooklyn Nets have been performing really well lately. They have won seven games in December, including three of their final five games. Before that, they had just three victories in October and November combined. However, now they have recently faced an injury setback. Cam Thomas will not play against the Washington Wizards on Friday due to a hamstring injury.
Thomas played 23 minutes in Thursday's game, but he will miss the second game of this back-to-back due to a hamstring ailment. It has kept him out for nearly two months. With Thomas out, Drake Powell and Tyrese Martin should each see a few more minutes.
Recently, it was announced that Nets star, Cam Thomas, will miss Friday's match due to injury maintenance because it is the second leg of a back-to-back set. Thomas recorded 21 points, one rebound, and one assist in 23 minutes during Thursday's defeat to Houston. On Friday, with Thomas gone, the Nets will probably rely a lot on Terance Mann and Ziaire Williams.
Meanwhile, their inability to keep up with Houston in the third quarter caused them to lose to the Rockets 120-96 on Thursday. The Nets' inability to contain Amen Thompson, Kevin Durant, or Alperen Sengun, contributed to their terrible performance in this game.
With Michael Porter Jr., Egor Demin, and Terance Mann out of the lineup, forward Ziaire Williams returned to the rotation with 14 points and five steals, and guard Cam Thomas finished with 21 points off the bench. Now, before their game against the Wizards on Friday, the Nets must heal from their mistakes against the Rockets.
Meanwhile, trade rumors about the team continue to circulate. Although Michael Porter Jr. appears to be in high demand, Cam Thomas might be much more likely to be traded. Thomas' alleged dissatisfaction with the team began in the winter when he was hoping to negotiate a contract worth more than $20-25 million a year.
Brian Lewis of the New York Post reported that no one is showing interest in Thomas.
“The Nets are expected to gauge the market for Thomas, who rejected a two-year, $30 million deal with a team option for the second season and a one-year, $9.5 million contract with incentives up to $11 million while waiving the no-trade clause. There has to be a market for Thomas, and multiple league sources have told The Post there simply isn’t one.”
In an attempt to rejoin the free agent market in 2026, Thomas chose to accept a $6 million one-year qualifying offer after the Nets stalled. He started the season as a starter but missed 20 games due to a left hamstring injury. He has recovered from the injury, but he is still not in the starting lineup.
In three games back from injury, Thomas is averaging 21.3 points per game in 20 minutes off the bench. Prior to his injury, Thomas played 30 minutes or more in five of his first seven games of the season, his fewest being 24.
