Mourinho previously coached Real Madrid between 2010 and 2013 and enjoyed major success during his spell at the club. The former goalkeeper explained that he simply believes other managers would fit the club better at this stage. He also stressed that his opinion has nothing to do with personal problems from the past.

The relationship between Casillas and Mourinho became a major talking point during Mourinho’s first spell at Madrid. Casillas was dropped from the starting lineup in late 2012, with Diego Lopez replacing him as first-choice goalkeeper. That decision created tension inside the dressing room and divided opinions among supporters.

Despite that difficult period, Mourinho’s achievements at Real Madrid remain impressive. Apart from winning La Liga with record-breaking numbers, his team also ended Barcelona’s dominance under Pep Guardiola. After leaving Madrid, Mourinho managed several top clubs including Chelsea, Manchester United, Tottenham Hotspur, Roma, Fenerbahce, and now Benfica.

Recent reports suggest Mourinho has held discussions with Real Madrid officials as uncertainty continues around the club. Meanwhile, Real Madrid president Florentino Perez refused to discuss possible coaching changes. Perez stated that his current focus remains on protecting the club’s ownership structure and preparing for the upcoming presidential election rather than talking about managers or players.
