Former Arsenal midfielder Lucas Torreira was reportedly assaulted outside a cafe in Istanbul’s Beyoglu district. The Galatasaray star was allegedly punched by a man who had previously threatened him. Turkish media reports claimed that the attacker tried to escape the scene in a taxi after the incident. However, police officers responding quickly managed to stop and detain him. Torreira reportedly suffered swelling and minor grazes around his left eye. The Uruguayan midfielder later filed an official complaint and is said to be pursuing legal action against the accused attacker.

The incident has created major concern among Galatasaray fans, especially with the club celebrating another successful league-winning campaign. Reports in Turkey also suggested that Torreira already had a restraining order against the suspect before the confrontation happened. Videos circulating on social media appeared to show a heated altercation involving members of the midfielder’s entourage. Despite the shocking attack, Torreira is expected to continue his recovery while authorities investigate the matter further. The midfielder has become one of Galatasaray’s key players since arriving from Arsenal in 2022.

Police detain suspect after attack on Lucas Torreira

According to reports from Turkish outlet Haberler, the incident happened outside a cafe in the busy Beyoglu district of Istanbul. The attacker allegedly approached Lucas Torreira before punching him during the confrontation. Witnesses nearby reportedly saw chaos break out as people around the midfielder tried to intervene quickly.

Videos shared online appeared to show a man arguing with members of Torreira’s group before he was knocked to the ground during the fight. The man later stood up and attempted to leave the area while continuing to exchange angry words with the group.

Reports in Turkey claimed the suspect had threatened Torreira before this incident. Local media also stated that the footballer already had legal protection measures in place against the man. After the assault, the attacker allegedly tried escaping in a taxi, but police officers managed to stop and arrest him shortly afterwards.

Torreira reportedly received minor facial injuries, including swelling and scratches near his left eye. The midfielder later submitted an official complaint to authorities and is expected to press charges against the suspect.
