Coco Gauff mother Candi Gauff reveals secret behind staying calm amid daughter’s stellar Italian Open campaign

Coco Gauff has continued her impressive form at the Italian Open. However, it was her mother, Candi Gauff, who recently grabbed attention in Rome. While the young American battled through tough matches on court, her mother remained calm and composed in the stands. Fans noticed Candi’s relaxed reaction during tense moments, including Coco’s emotional outburst during her quarterfinal clash against Mirra Andreeva.

A fan later shared a picture of Candi Gauff quietly watching the match from the stands. Responding to the post on social media, Coco’s mother explained that prayer has helped her remain peaceful throughout the tournament. She mentioned that she had spent time visiting several churches in Rome and often prays during matches. However, she clarified that her prayers are not focused on victories, but more on supporting her children through their journeys both on and off the court.

Coco Gauff focusing on growth instead of chasing every title

Coco Gauff has reached the semifinal stage in Rome after a series of hard-fought victories. The American star defeated Tereza Valentova, Solana Sierra, Iva Jovic, and Mirra Andreeva. These wins have helped her to continue her strong campaign in the Italian capital. Her comeback win against Andreeva especially tested her patience and emotions, as the teenager struggled with a few errors during the contest.

Despite the pressure of high expectations, Gauff recently admitted that she has started changing her mindset towards competitions. The World No2 explained that she used to place too much importance on winning every tournament she entered. However, she now understands that constant victories are unrealistic. She wants to focus more on improving her game and enjoying the process.

The 22-year-old shared that she still has a strong desire to succeed. However, she is learning to appreciate her progress rather than becoming frustrated after every setback. According to Gauff, maturity and experience have helped her take a healthier approach towards the sport.

So far in the 2026 season, Gauff is still searching for her first singles title. She came close at the Miami Open but lost to Aryna Sabalenka in the final. She also reached the semifinals of the Dubai Tennis Championships before being defeated by Elina Svitolina.

Gauff will now face Sorana Cirstea in the semifinal after the Romanian defeated Jelena Ostapenko in straight sets. The American is also preparing to defend her title at the upcoming French Open in Paris.
