Canadian tennis star Leylah Fernandez made headlines off the court after her early exit from the Italian Open. The World No. 23 suffered a tough three-set defeat against Rebeka Masarova in the Round of 64 in Rome. Fernandez started strongly by winning the first set 6-4, but Masarova fought back to take the next two sets 6-4, 6-4 in a match that lasted more than two hours.

Soon after the loss, Fernandez turned her attention toward enjoying time in Rome with her boyfriend, Vincent Boily. The Canadian star shared photos and videos from their trip around the city. The couple visited famous tourist attractions, including the Trevi Fountain and the Colosseum. Fernandez also posted moments from a romantic Italian dinner and stylish outfit pictures from the vacation.

Leylah Fernandez posted several glimpses from her Rome trip on social media with the caption “Some Rome archives”. In one photo, the 23-year-old wore a white sleeveless dress paired with a beige jacket. In another, she chose a casual black tank top look while exploring the city streets.

The couple also enjoyed traditional Italian food during an outdoor dinner date. One of the highlights included a large serving of ravioli in a creamy Alfredo sauce. Fans quickly reacted to the post and praised the tennis star for enjoying her time away from competition.

Fernandez had quietly introduced her relationship with Boily earlier this year. The para ice hockey athlete first appeared in the background of one of her “get ready with me” videos shared in April. Boily, who is from Canada, overcame a life-changing snowmobile accident during his teenage years that resulted in partial paralysis. Despite the setback, he continued pursuing his passion for hockey and later became a member of Canada’s para ice hockey team. He also helped his country win a silver medal at the 2026 Milano Cortina Paralympic Winter Games.

Meanwhile, Fernandez recently amused fans with her comments about her younger sister dating tennis players. During an interview, she jokingly explained that her concern was less about protecting her sister and more about sparing potential boyfriends from dealing with their competitive family environment.

Away from tennis, Fernandez has often spoken about the close bond she shares with her sisters, Jodeci and Bianca.

Following her early exit in Rome, Fernandez will now shift her focus to the WTA 125 tournament in Paris. She is scheduled to face Anna Blinkova in the Round of 32.
