Sebastien Buemi finally secured his first podium of Formula E Season 12 in Jeddah. The Envision Racing driver finished second in the Round 5 race, as Antonio Felix da Costa took the win and Oliver Rowland came home third. Buemi admitted he felt relieved after earlier setbacks this season, including in Mexico, where he finished last despite starting from pole. He spoke about his performance and how it ultimately helped him collect valuable points, with many races still remaining this year.

Sebastien Buemi on finally clinching a podium in Jeddah

Sebastien Buemi was eager for a podium after falling short in the first four races. He finished eighth in the season opener in Sao Paulo, then ended up last in Mexico City despite starting on pole. In Miami, he began from the back row but climbed to seventh. He finished in the same position in the first race of the Jeddah doubleheader before finally stepping onto the podium.Reflecting on his season so far, Buemi told FormulaE.com in an interview, “Kind of relieved, to be honest, because, you know, as I said, in Mexico I threw it away in Turn 1 starting from pole. In Miami, the team did not communicate well and we impeded people, started last but had a mega race.
Yesterday we just had a bad set of tires and qualified last, and today everything went okay.”“I didn't make mistakes, the team did great, and we had a good set of tires and a good result. So hopefully we can iron out all those small issues and start to score some decent points like today,” he added after finishing second in Round 5 in Jeddah.

Sebastien Buemi on Envision Racing’s progress over the past few months

Sebastien Buemi is currently ninth in the Formula E Drivers’ Standings with 37 points. His Envision Racing teammate, Joel Eriksson, has also been making progress, finishing fourth in Miami.Speaking about the team’s development, Buemi said, “It's always hard to predict, but obviously I think what the team has done and evolved in the last six months is good. We seem to see a lot more performance, not always the results we hope for, but good performance. And if you have performance, at some point you get the result.”Formula E drivers now have a month-long break before returning for Round 6 in Madrid. The Madrid E-Prix is a new venue on the Formula E calendar this year and is scheduled for March 21.Also read: “This one feels good”: Antonio Felix da Costa enjoys bathtub celebration after Jeddah E-Prix victory
