A pretty eventful first over after the break. Henry looked a long way away from being on song before Lunch, and it was a kind of surprising move to bring him on right away, but he looked in a far better rhythm this time around. Now then, Will O'Rourke (4-1-18-1) to bowl from the other end.

Welcome back for the post-Lunch session. The players have punctually made their way out as the sun peeks through nicely now. Although it is fairly overcast in the background. Jacob Bethell and Emilio Gay walk to the crease to resume their partnership with England effectively on 99/1. ... DAY 2, SESSION 2 ...

What a way to make a comeback - Both Kyle Jamieson and Ollie Robinson had been away from Test cricket for a couple of years, and both announced their return in the most emphatic fashion possible, each picking up five-wicket hauls in the first innings at Lord's. Jamieson also contributed some handy runs with the bat this morning as well, part of a late lower-order resurgence that saw New Zealand add 48 for their last four wickets after being reduced to 65/6. So it's been so far, so good for England, but this game is a long way from safe. Runs have not come easily in the overcast conditions, and the surface continues to offer the seamers more than enough to keep the batters honest. With England's lead reading 99 runs, it sets up for a gripping post-Lunch session. Play is expected to resume at 12.55 pm GMT. Stay tuned.

Graft over glory at Lord's - With a 27-run lead at their disposal, England started off watchfully against the new ball spells from Nathan Smith and Jamieson. Ben Duckett just started to look dangerous, though he was not fluent to start with, but was finding his touch. However, a judgmental error in picking the length cost him his wicket. It has not been easy out there to bat by any means, and through baptism by fire for Gay on debut, he has come through it well so far. Perhaps it's the sort of match when any runs you score count double. If you get 40 here, it's the equivalent of getting 80 on a truer surface.

England's spot-on execution with the ball - New Zealand hoped for Glenn Phillips to shrink the 79-run deficit, but Josh Tongue started the day off by removing both overnight batters. Kyle Jamieson did show some intent with the bat, and actually, he was the lead scorer for the tourists, with a cameo of 38, but his resistance was short-lived, and his dismissal saw New Zealand getting bundled up on 113, with still a fair bit of deficit left. Robinson and Tongue tore apart the Kiwi lower order with the former completing a spectacular five-for.

Lunch, Day 2 -  England have had the better of the session in all senses. They bundled New Zealand out in the first half, and then extended the lead to 99 runs with just one wicket down. They did lose Duckett, but have added a handy flurry of runs, and Emilio Gay has looked very promising so far. The pitch seemed to have eased out as the session wore on, and England were also handed a lifeline when Ravindra grassed one in the infield. Overall, a promising morning for England on the Ruth Strauss Day.

Jacob Bethell is taken aback as he tries to keep it out, but the ball brushes his thumb before hitting his chest on the left side. That probably saves the ball from carrying to the slip cordon and Bethell survives. THAT WILL BE LUNCH ON DAY 2!

It goes off the outer half wide of gully, beating the dive of Glenn Phillips and running to the deep thrid fence for four runs. England lead by 99 runs now.

He tries to play at it but gets a thick outside edge. It flies between first and second slips, where Tom Latham at the former position leaves it, and Daryl Mitchell is late to react as the ball runs behind to the fence.

It looks like Matt Henry is not happy with the shape of the ball. But it passes the gauge test done by the umpire, with Kane Williamson having a close look. Good to resume.

Ben Duckett sets himself up for the short ball and decides late to play at that ball. He just throws his hands at the ball with his feet going nowhere. The bat gets skewed in his hands as the ball flies off the face of the bat towards gully, where Glenn Phillips takes a sharp low catch to his front. England are 52/1, leading by 79 runs.
