"Before... everything falls apart": Smriti Mandhana shares a cryptic note from the Bhagavad Gita for the New Year
The year 2025 was a roller-coaster ride for many. However, what really matters is how one emerges from life's challenges and moves ahead in life. For ace cricketer Smriti Mandhana, 2025 was one such year-- from winning the World Cup for India to calling off her wedding with Palash Muchhal at the last minute, her life went through many ups and downs. But it looks like the Vice Captain of Indian women's team took things in her stride and has now moved ahead in life-- stronger and wiser.
Reflecting on the year that went by, Smriti and her team took to social media on December 31, 2025, wherein she shared a video with a cryptic note from the Bhagavad Gita. In the video, Smriti shared glimpses of some of the best moments of 2025 for her: from enjoying their World Cup win to fun memories with friends and family to her disciplined fitness routine. But, what caught people's attention was a note from the Bhagavad Gita about hope, faith and new beginnings.
"DAY 12 Of daily Bhagavad Gita 'Before something great happens to you, everything falls apart. So just wait.' - Lord Krishna," the quote read.
Why Smriti Mandhana and Palash Muchhal's wedding was called-off at the last minute?
Smriti Mandhana and Palash Muchhal's relationship seemed no less than a fairytale: From dating each other for a couple of years to having a dreamy proposal at DY Patil Stadium, it seemed oh-so-perfect to all. The wedding preparations were in full swing in November, with the Mehendi and Sangeet celebrations on followed by a grand wedding on November 23, 2025. However, hours before the duo had to tie the knot, news of Smriti's father being hospitalised and the wedding being postponed shocked everyone. Days later, rumours were rife about Palash cheating on Smriti. But, neither Palash nor Smriti or their families gave any statements.
Weeks later, on December 7, 2025, Smriti Mandhana broke her silence and took to Instagram to share her side of the story. Confirming that her wedding with Palash Muchhal is called-off, she wrote that she is a private person and would prefer to keep things to herself.
"Over the past few weeks, there has been plenty of speculation around my life, and I feel it is important for me to speak out at this time. I am a very private person, and I would like to keep it that way, but I need to clarify that the wedding is called off. I would like to close this matter here and implore all of you to do the same. I request you to please respect the privacy of both families at this time and allow us the space to process and move on at our own pace," her note read.
She further shared that she has moved on in life and would like to focus on her one true love: Cricket. "I believe there is a higher purpose driving us all, and for me, that has always been representing my country at the highest level. I hope to continue to play and win trophies for India for as long as possible, and that is where my focus will forever be. Thank you for all your support. It's time to move forward," she said.
New year, new beginnings
After a whirlwind 2025, Smriti Mandhana seems to have stepped into 2026 with new hope and faith and her cryptic post from the Bhagavad Gita seems to be a proof of it.
After all, it's said , 'Your attitude determines your altitude,' and rightly so.
