Social media influencer Charlotte Ford opens up about the exhaustion and hilarity of raising two babies
Social media influencer Charlotte Ford is keeping it refreshingly real about life as a mom of two under two. The Texas-based content creator, 26, has been candidly documenting the highs, lows, and downright chaotic moments of early motherhood, and her honesty is resonating with parents across the internet.
Ford, who also parents daughters Lucy, 13 months, and Charlie, 8 weeks, both with husband Grayson Ford, recently spoke with People in a candid conversation that outlined her experience with the unexpectedly intense nature of transitioning from one child to two.
In one of her more popular videos, Ford doesn't mince her words when tackling the prevailing myth that a transition from one to two children is easier than making the transition to becoming a parent for the first time. “I have a message for every single person who said that the transition from one to two kids is easier than zero to one,” she says straightforwardly. “This is no joke.”
Describing her daily routine, she added humorously, "I don’t remember what it's like to sit down. I don't remember what the inside of my car looks like. I don't remember what the inside of my makeup bag looks like. Times are tough." She joked that her husband receives plenty of SOS texts during the day and sweetly restocks essentials like wine and ice cream though she admits she can barely find the time to enjoy them.
Speaking to People, Ford revealed that at first, she was very confident about expanding their family. “When we first found out I was pregnant, my husband and I were so excited that our daughter Lucy would have a sister so close in age,” she explained. “Having daughters only a year apart comes with so many benefits, but we also expected it to be a little chaotic at first.”
Reality quickly set in. "I had always heard that one to two kids was much easier than zero to one, so I wasn't too worried," she said. "The day I filmed this video was the day that this myth was officially debunked."
She remembered one especially overwhelming day when both children wanted to be held at the same time. “It was one of those moments where you realize you physically can’t meet everyone’s needs at once. It was one of those, ‘If I don’t laugh, I’ll cry,’ kind of days.”
Despite the exhaustion, Ford says there are plenty of heartwarming moments too. Her older daughter is already smitten with her baby sister: "She always holds out her arms to hold Charlie, offers her pacifier, pats her back or her face, and gives her many kisses," Ford shared.
She also credits her husband for keeping her level-headed. Though he works long hours providing anesthesia, Ford says he takes over parenting duties the moment he gets home—often after picking up flowers and wine along the way. “My one-year-old is over the moon when he gets home, and you better believe I am too,” she added.
The overwhelming response from fellow mothers has been one of the most reassuring aspects of sharing her journey. The majority of moms with similar age gaps, Ford says, have echoed her experience of challenging the concept that the second child makes things automatically easier-most specifically, for parents with two under two.
As for whether the couple plans to grow their family further, Ford says they’re not in a rush. “When asked if we want more kids after this, my husband jokes that we should have three under three and knock it all out at once,” she said, laughing. “I ask him if he’s lost his marbles.” For now, the social media influencer says she feels grateful -- and very busy -- with her little family of four. And though another baby may be welcomed one day, she admits planning for that is nowhere on the immediate horizon.
