Jackie Chan, a popular name across the world is currently making headlines for his upcoming Chinese film. While talking about his upcoming movie at an event, he reflected to his fatherhood journey and things that he regrets doing. He recently shared a scene from the movie that deeply resonated with him. He reveals how he wishes to have a closer relationship with his son Jaycee Chan.
Talking about the movie scene, he revealed how a reconciliation between a father and son from the film stuck a chord in his heart. The 71-year-old actor says he wishes the same for in his own life. He even expressed his hope for a closer relationship with his son, Jaycee, who is now 43.
According the reports, Jackie and Jaycee’s relationship has been strained for some time. While there’s no official confirmation about it yet, reports suggest that distance was caused by his overly strict parenting approach. A recent opinion shared by Jackie reveals how he wishes to grow closet to his son. Reflecting on the past, he admitted that he realised too late that constant criticism created fear rather than positive guidance.
Jackie’s take on parenting He said, “In the past, whenever I saw my son, I scolded him. Whenever I went on television, I criticised him, I never said a kind word. I was wrong. Education shouldn’t be like this. I should have given him more freedom instead.”
Jackie also said that Jaycee used to call him once a year on his birthday but stopped after a while. He said that he once scolded his own son for calling him only on that day and that the kid should call him more often a statement that he regrets.
Jackie also revealed Jaycee used to contact him once a year on his birthday and has since stopped. It was made clear that Jackie normally scolded his own child for merely contacting him on his birthday and needed to call him more, a statement he now regrets.
Jackie also informed that, as he has grown older, he understood that he nurtured his son wrongly. He, in fact, wants only one thing about Jaycee at this stage: "that he is happy and he is safe."
