West Bengal will be a keenly watched battleground, as BJP looks to unseat two-time CM Mamata Banerjee and her Trinamool Congress. Polling will be held over 8 phases, the most for any state for the upcoming assembly elections. G-23’s Azad, Sharma, Tewari not on Congress star campaigners list

Leading dissidents Ghulam Nabi Azad, Anand Sharma and Manish Tewari do not figure in the list of “star campaigners” finalised by Congress for the initial phases of West Bengal and Assam polls. As per the lists submitted to the Election Commission on Friday, all the senior Congress functionaries starting with the Gandhi family members, former PM Manmohan Singh and young spokesman Jaiveer Shergill were named as campaigners for the two states.

Mamata Banerjee's home, may release poll pledge on 'Nandigram Day'

Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee stepped out of SSKM Hospital’s Woodburn Ward in a wheelchair on Friday evening, two days after suffering an injury on her left foot while campaigning in Nandigram on Wednesday. It is not clear when she will be able to hit the campaign trail again. But party seniors said it was not likely to happen before Monday though she may release the party manifesto on March 14 — observed by Trinamool as “Nandigram Day” in commemoration of the 2007 police firing — with a special section on Nandigram.
