Uttarakhand glacier disaster live updates: 26 bodies have been recovered from different places so far, says police

Rescue operations to save at least 30 people who are stranded at a tunnel near Tapovan Dam in Chamoli district is underway while 12 people have already been rescued from another tunnel, said Vivek Pandey, Indo-Tibetan Border Police's (ITBP) spokesperson on Monday. The ITBP has deployed 300 personnel to carry out rescue operations at the tunnel. "We have intensified search operation at the second tunnel. We have information that around 30 people are trapped there. Around 300 ITBP jawans are deployed to clear the tunnel. Local administration says that around 170 people are missing," said Pandey.

Pained by the loss of lives in the massive flash flood caused by a glacier breach near Joshimath in Uttarakhand's Chamoli district, India wicketkeeper-batsman Rishabh Pant has decided to donate his match fee of the ongoing first Test against England in order to contribute towards the rescue efforts. Nearly 150 people were still feared missing and many killed and as many as 10 bodies have been recovered after the tragic incident that took place on Sunday morning. Pant also urged people to come out and help in these trying times. "Deeply pained by the loss of life in Uttarakhand. Would like to donate my match fee for the rescue efforts and would urge more people to help out," Pant said in a tweet.
