Tollyganj is a fully urban assembly constituency in South 24 Parganas, falling within the Jadavpur Lok Sabha constituency. The area is known for its film industry connections — Tollywood, the Bengali-language film industry, derives its name from this neighbourhood.
It is a 100 per cent urban constituency with a mix of residential, commercial, and cultural spaces.
In 2021,
TMC's Aroop Biswas — a prominent party leader and minister — retained the seat, polling over 51 per cent of the vote against
BJP's candidate. TMC had dominated Tollygunge across multiple election cycles, consolidating the Bengali urban vote effectively.
In 2016, TMC again held the constituency, with Aroop Biswas continuing as the MLA.
A senior figure in the TMC organisation, Biswas had been closely associated with the party's presence in southern Kolkata.
The constituency's voter turnout has generally been moderate for an urban seat, around 73 per cent in 2021. The key issues for voters in Tollygunge include civic amenities, solid waste management, and the upkeep of the area's residential localities.
