Prime Minister Narendra Modi and US President Donald Trump on Monday held bilateral talks on the sidelines of the ASEAN summit here during which they discussed a range of key issues including defence and security.

The two leaders are understood to have discussed the security scenario in the region besides several other issues of mutual interests, including ways to further boost bilateral trade.

The meeting comes a day after officials of India, the US, Japan and Australia held talks to give shape to the much talked about quadrilateral alliance to keep the strategically important Indo-Pacific region free, open and inclusive.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi was delighted today to see the Ramayana being performed at the opening ceremony of the 31st ASEAN Summit.

Hindu influences and folklore arrived in the Philippines around the 9th or 10th century AD, say Indologists Juan R. Francisco and Josephine Acosta Pasricha. The Philippines' famous dance 'Singkil' is based on the Ramayana. It is a folk dance of the Maranao people of the island nation's Lake Lanao.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited the global rice research centre in the Philippines and got a briefing from the scientists at the world famous institute which is working towards developing better quality of rice seeds to address issues relating to food scarcity.

A large number of Indian scientists are working in the International Rice Research Institute (IRRI) in Los Banos, an urban locality situated at a distance of around 65 kms from Manila, the capital of the Philippines.
