Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday called on Israeli President Reuven Rivlin and discussed ways to strengthen bilateral ties.

Gujarat is already set to reap the fruits of Indo-Israel partnership, that too in the kesar mango hub of Junagadh. Using Israel expertise, farmers would now be able to grow mangoes even in the coastal belt and get more fruit per acre.

With PM Narendra Modi arriving to a warm welcome in Israel, his host PM Benjamin Netanyahu will attend a community event in Tel Aviv on Wednesday evening where Modi will address Jews of Indian origin.

Netanyahu has accepted an invitation to attend the community event expected to see around 4000 people turn up to listen to Modi, said sources. The meeting has generated considerable interest in the Indian origin community with Modi being the first Indian PM to travel to Israel.

Netanyahu, known for his flamboyant political style, is also expected to address the gathering.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi gifted his Israeli counterpart Benjamin Netanyahu replicas of two sets of relics from Kerala, regarded as key artifacts of the long Jewish history in India.

During the tour, PM Modi will be visiting the Indian soldiers' cemetery at Haifa, Israel's third-largest city.

New fast-growing Israeli chrysanthemum flower named in honour of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and will be called "MODI".

Netanyahu is seen as a hard-liner and opinion on him is often split on political lines though he is not averse to cutting a deal.

"Aapka swagat hai mere dost,"+ Netanyahu said as the leaders hit the right notes. Modi returned a "shalom" and said in Hebrew that he was delighted to be in Israel.

"Modi suite is secured against bomb attacks, chemical attacks, everything," said Sheldon Ritz to TOI.
