Prime Minister Narendra Modi planted a sapling while visiting Indian Arrival Monument in Georgetown, Guyana.

He says, " The relation of India and Guyana is very deep, it is the relation of soil, sweat, diligence. Around 180 years ago, an Indian came to Guyana land and after that, both in happiness and sadness, India and Guyana's relation has been filled with intimacy."

The meeting underlined the growing partnership between India and Guyana, focusing on key sectors to strengthen bilateral ties and enhance mutual development initiatives.

The Dominica Award of Honour is the highest recognition bestowed by the Commonwealth of Dominica.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, during his historic visit to Guyana on Wednesday, expressed India's keen interest in strengthening partnerships with Caribbean nations across multiple sectors. This marked the first visit by an Indian leader to the region in over five decades, as he prepared to participate in the second India-CARICOM Summit alongside Caribbean leaders.

The summit aimed to enhance collaboration in key areas including economic partnerships, agriculture and food security, healthcare and pharmaceutical sectors, as well as scientific and technological innovations.

The previous meeting between CARICOM Heads of Government and the Prime Minister took place in 2019 during the 74th Session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA). At that time, they explored collaborative opportunities in renewable energy and climate change initiatives, supported by India's USD 150 million credit line.

As he began the last leg of his three-nation tour, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that the rousing welcome that he received in Guyana early Wednesday morning, India time, will forever be etched in his memory.

In a special gesture, the President of Guyana, Mohamed Irfaan Ali, along with the country's PM Brigadier (Retd.) Mark Anthony Phillips and over a dozen Cabinet Ministers - welcomed PM Modi at the airport as he arrived from Rio de Janeiro following the conclusion of the G20 Summit on a historic visit - the first by an Indian Prime Minister to the South American nation in 56 years.

"Later in the evening, at the Guyana Marriott Hotel in Georgetown, I had the pleasure of introducing Prime Minister Modi to several CARICOM leaders who are here for the 2nd India-CARICOM Summit. This meeting underscored the strengthening bonds between India and the Caribbean, built on shared values and a vision for mutual progress," the Guyanese President wrote on X.

During his arrival at the hotel, PM Modi was greeted by leaders from several nations, including President Mohamed Irfaan Ali of Guyana, Prime Minister Dickon Mitchell of Grenada, and Prime Minister Mia Amor Mottley of Barbados. As a symbol of the strong bilateral ties, the Mayor of Georgetown presented PM Modi with the 'Key to the City of Georgetown.' The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) shared that the Prime Minister received this special welcome from various high-ranking officials of Guyana.

Guyana and Barbados to confer their top awards to PM Narendra Modi. Guyana will confer its highest national award, “The Order of Excellence” on Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Barbados will confer the prestigious Honorary Order of Freedom of Barbados.

Dominica had also announced its top award for PM Modi a few days back. The number of international honours for PM Modi reached 19.

After attending the 19th G20 Leaders' Summit, in Brazil's Rio de Janeiro, PM Modi left for his last and third leg of the three-nation tour, Guyana. This will be the first visit by an Indian prime minister to the Caribbean nation in over 50 years. PM Modi will hold a bilateral with President Mohamed Irfaan Ali and will address a special sitting of Guyana's parliament. During this visit, PM Modi will also join leaders from the Caribbean partner countries for the 2nd India-CARICOM Summit.

India’s Sherpa to G20, Amitabh Kant says, "Geopolitical paras of this particular G20 declaration talks about a comprehensive ceasefire in Gaza and in Lebanon in line with the UN Security Resolution 2735. It also talks about the commitment to the vision of a two-state solution where Israel and the Palestinian states live side by side in peace within secure and recognized borders."

Amitabh Kant says, "As far as the Russia-Ukraine crisis is concerned, it (G20 declaration) talks about a comprehensive, just and durable peace, upholding all the purposes and principles of the UN Charter for the promotion of peaceful, friendly and good neighbourly relations amongst nations. It also condemns terrorism in all its forms and manifestations..."

Taking to X, PM Modi said, "At the G20 Summit in Rio de Janeiro today, I spoke on a topic which is very important for the future of the planet- Sustainable Development and Energy Transition. I reiterated India’s steadfast commitment to the Sustainable Development Agenda. Over the past decade, India has undertaken numerous initiatives in sectors like housing, water resources, energy and sanitation which have contributed to a more sustainable future."

Building on this, we are accelerating towards more ambitious goals in sectors like renewable energy. Our effort of the world’s largest solar rooftop programme is an example of the same."

According to a statement from MEA, Prime Ministers expressed satisfaction at the increasing two-way trade, business engagements and market access for goods and services enabled under the landmark India-Australia Economic Cooperation and Trade Agreement (ECTA). They welcomed further work towards an ambitious, balanced and mutually beneficial Comprehensive Economic Cooperation Agreement (CECA), to realise the full potential of the bilateral economic relationship.

"The Prime Ministers reiterated their commitment to strengthening cooperation through the Quad as a force for global good which delivers real, positive and enduring impact for the Indo-Pacific, to advance their shared vision for a region that is free, open, inclusive and resilient. They appreciated the Quad’s ongoing efforts to undertake ambitious projects to help partners address pandemics and disease; respond to natural disasters; strengthen maritime domain awareness and maritime security; mobilise and build high-standard physical and digital infrastructure; invest in and benefit from critical and emerging technologies; confront the threat of climate change; bolster cyber-security; and cultivate the next generation of technology leaders. Prime Minister Modi looked forward to hosting Australia at the Quad Leaders’ Summit in India in 2025," the statement said.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, heads of state of Singapore, Portugal, Norway, Spain and Mexico, as well as the World Health Organization, the United Nations, the World Bank, the IMF and the World Trade Organization took part in the session.

External Affairs Minister (MEA) S Jaishankar and Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi met on the sidelines of the G20 Summit in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil and acknowledged the progress made in disengagement from border areas, which has contributed to maintaining peace and tranquillity.

They also exchanged views on enhancing bilateral ties, including the resumption of the Kailash Mansarovar Yatra pilgrimage, data sharing on trans-border rivers, direct flights, and media exchanges.

"External Affairs Minister (EAM) Dr. S. Jaishankar met Member of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Political Bureau and Foreign Minister, H.E. Mr. Wang Yi on 18 November 2024 in Rio de Janeiro on the sidelines of the G20 Summit," the MEA said in a statement on Tuesday.

During the meeting, the ministers recognised that the disengagement in the border areas had contributed to the maintenance of peace and tranquillity. The discussions focused on the next steps in India-China relations and it was agreed that a meeting of the Special Representatives and of the Foreign Secretary-Vice Minister mechanism will take place soon, the MEA said.

India and China decided to soon convene a meeting of their Special Representatives on the boundary question after a gap of nearly five years and inched closer to the resumption of direct flights as well as Kailash Mansarovar pilgrimage, weeks after pulling back their troops from two face-off points in eastern Ladakh. The next steps in India-China ties with a broader objective to stabilise the relationship figured prominently in talks between External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar and his Chinese counterpart Wang Yi that took place on the sidelines of the G20 Summit in Rio de Janeiro late Monday.

The two ministers felt that it was imperative that the focus should be on stabilising ties, managing differences and taking the next steps, according to the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA).
