Perundurai Assembly constituency is located in Erode district of Tamil Nadu and forms part of the Tiruppur Lok Sabha constituency. In the 2026 elections, AIADMK's Jayakumar S registered a victory with 70,302 votes, defeating DMK candidate Thoppu Venkatachalam with a margin of 9,693 votes.
The seat lies in the Kongu belt of western Tamil Nadu and represents a mix of agrarian and industrial areas. Electoral contests here have largely been dominated by the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) and the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK), with regional parties occasionally emerging as challengers through alliance politics.
In the 2016 Assembly elections, the constituency had 2,12,885 electors, with 1,82,263 valid votes polled.
AIADMK candidate N D Venkatachalam secured victory with 80,292 votes, defeating DMK candidate K P Samy (a) Mohanasundaram P, who received 67,521 votes. The margin of victory stood at 12,771 votes, giving the AIADMK a comfortable win in the constituency.
Earlier, in the 2011 Assembly elections, Perundurai had 1,78,269 electors, with 1,49,561 valid votes recorded. AIADMK’s N D Venkatachalam retained the seat with 89,960 votes, defeating Kongu Nadu Munnetra Kazhagam candidate KKC Balu, who secured 47,793 votes.
The winning margin of 42,167 votes reflected strong support for the AIADMK during that election cycle.
Historically, the constituency has largely favoured the AIADMK. AIADMK candidate C Ponnudurai won the seat in 2006, defeating CPI candidate N Periyasamy, while K S Palanisamy secured victory for the AIADMK in 2001. The pattern suggests that Perundurai has remained a stronghold for the AIADMK, though electoral margins have varied depending on alliances and broader political trends in Tamil Nadu.
