The current MLA is C.K. Hareendran from CPI(M), elected in 2021 with 78,548 votes (48.16per cent), defeating INC's R.K. Ansajitha Ressel (52,720 votes, 32.33per cent) by 25,828 votes, while BJP's Karamana Jayan got 29,850 votes (18.30per cent) amid 72.41per cent turnout.
Key issues include coastal erosion threatening fishing livelihoods; poor rural road connectivity hindering farm exports; youth unemployment despite Gulf remittances; erratic water supply and sanitation gaps; overburdened PHCs; illegal sand mining polluting rivers; monsoon power outages; rising land prices squeezing small farmers; traffic near markets; and inadequate public transport challenging this LDF stronghold's border-coastal economy.
