Namakkal Assembly constituency is located in Namakkal district of Tamil Nadu and forms part of the Namakkal Lok Sabha constituency. Dilip CS of TVK emerged as the winner securing 79,744 votes, defeating Sridevi Mohan PS of
AIADMK, who secured 68,736 votes.
The seat represents a key political segment in the western region of the state and has historically witnessed contests involving the All India Anna
Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK), the
Indian National Congress (INC), and the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK), along with smaller regional parties that occasionally influence the electoral outcome.
In the 2016 Assembly elections, the constituency had 2,42,615 electors, with 1,94,441 valid votes polled. AIADMK candidate Baskar K P P secured victory with 89,076 votes, defeating INC candidate Chezhian R, who polled 75,542 votes.
The margin of victory stood at 13,534 votes, giving the AIADMK a clear win in the constituency.
Earlier, in the 2011 Assembly elections, Namakkal had 2,06,748 electors, with 1,69,649 valid votes recorded. AIADMK’s Baskar K P P retained the seat with 95,579 votes, defeating Kongu Nadu Munnetra Kazhagam candidate Devarasan R, who secured 59,724 votes. The winning margin of 35,855 votes reflected strong support for the AIADMK during that election cycle.
Historically, the constituency has seen victories by different parties. Indian National Congress candidate Jayakumar K won the seat in both 2006 and 2001, while DMK candidate K Veisamy secured victory in 1996. Earlier, AIADMK’s S Anbalagan won the constituency in 1991, indicating that Namakkal has experienced shifting political preferences shaped by broader electoral trends and alliances in Tamil Nadu.
