Modakkurichi Assembly constituency is located in Erode district of Tamil Nadu and forms part of the Erode Lok Sabha constituency. In the 2026 assembly polls, TVK candidate D Shanmugan emerged as the winner with 60,715 votes, with a margin of 2,430 votes. BJP's S Kirthika emerged second, with a vote count of 58,285.
The seat lies in an agrarian belt of the Kongu region and has traditionally witnessed electoral contests between the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) and the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK), with the Indian National Congress (INC) occasionally emerging as a challenger through alliance politics.
In the 2016 Assembly elections, the constituency had 2,22,002 electors, with 1,76,676 valid votes polled.
AIADMK candidate V P Sivasubramani secured victory with 77,067 votes, narrowly defeating DMK candidate P Sachidanandam, who received 74,845 votes. The margin of victory stood at 2,222 votes, indicating a closely contested electoral battle between the two major parties.
Earlier, in the 2011 Assembly elections, Modakkurichi had 1,87,832 electors, with 1,53,092 valid votes recorded. AIADMK candidate R N Kittusamy won the seat with 87,705 votes, defeating INC candidate R M Palanisami, who secured 47,543 votes.
The winning margin of 40,162 votes reflected a strong performance by the AIADMK during that election cycle.
The results across these two elections suggest a competitive political landscape, with the AIADMK maintaining an edge in the constituency, though the narrow margin in 2016 indicates evolving voter preferences shaped by broader political trends in Tamil Nadu.
