AIADMK candidate S Ramachandran secured a decisive victory with 90,503 votes, winning by a margin of 30,465 votes against DMK candidate K Pitchandi, who polled 60,038 votes. TVK candidate D Raja finished third.
The Kilpennathur constituency witnessed a high-stakes battle in the 2026 Assembly elections, with the DMK re-nominating the veteran incumbent K Pitchandi, who sought to maintain his stronghold. He faced a spirited challenge from S Ramachandran of the AIADMK. The contest was further diversified by D. Raja of the TVK and V. Loganathan of the NTK, focusing on local agrarian welfare.
In the 2021 election, K. Pitchandi (DMK) secured victory with 104,675 votes (51.34% vote share), defeating K.
Selvakumar (PMK) by a margin of 26,787 votes. In the 2016 election, K. Pitchandi (DMK) won with 99,070 votes (50.22% vote share), defeating the AIADMK’s K. Selvamani by 34,666 votes.
Voter turnout this year reached 90.24%, a notable increase from the 80.55% in 2021. This hike is largely attributed to the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) drive, which significantly enhanced voter roll accuracy and encouraged participation among first-time voters and rural farmers.
Kilpennathur (Assembly constituency No. 64) is a key segment in the Tiruvannamalai district, characterised by its reliance on agriculture and small-scale industries. As a consistent DMK bastion in recent cycles, it serves as a primary indicator of the political pulse in the northern agrarian belt of Tamil Nadu.
The 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections were held in a single phase on April 23, recording a high voter turnout of 85.15%, with results declared on May 4. The polls witnessed an intense three-way contest that challenged the state’s traditional bipolar political structure. The electoral battle was primarily between the DMK-led alliance, including the INC and other parties, headed by MK Stalin and the AIADMK-led alliance, headed by Edappadi K Palaniswami, along with the BJP and other parties.
