NEW DELHI: In Assam’s Jorhat (Assembly Constituency 100), the result delivered a significant political message, with Hitendra Nath Goswami of the Bharatiya Janata Party securing a comfortable win over high-profile Congress contender Gaurav Gogoi. Goswami polled 69,439 votes, defeating Gogoi of the Indian National Congress by a margin of 23,182 votes, underlining the BJP’s firm grip even in seats where the opposition fielded prominent faces.
The scale of the victory points to a consolidation of support for the ruling party, while also reflecting the Congress’s struggle to convert leadership visibility into electoral gains.
There were a total of 148280 registered voters on the electoral rolls for the 2026 Assembly election in Jorhat Assembly constituency, of whom 70897 were male, 77382 female and 1 belonged to the third gender.
Exit polls released on Wednesday evening for the high-stakes Assam battle indicate a clear majority for the incumbent Himanta Biswa Sarma-led government, with most pollsters favouring the BJP to secure a third consecutive term in the tea-producing state.
