NEW DELHI: Two terror associates were arrested and arms, ammunition along with cash worth Rs 8.40 lakh were seized by the Jammu and Kashmir Police during a late-evening operation in Ganderbal district.The operation was carried out by Police Station Ganderbal with the support of the Special Operations Group (SOG) near Gundrehman Bridge. Based on specific inputs, the police team stopped a load carrier bearing registration number JK15B-7309 during routine naka checking, according to an official statement.

A detailed search of the vehicle led to the recovery of a Chinese pistol, a pistol magazine, four rounds of ammunition, two hand grenades and cash amounting to Rs 8,40,500. Officials said the seizure indicates possible terror-linked activities and an attempt to support unlawful operations in the area, as reported by ANI.The arrested individuals were identified as Ghulam Nabi Mir of Hajin in Bandipora district and Shabnum Nazir, daughter of Nazir Ahmad Ganie, a resident of Shalabugh in Ganderbal district.Following the arrests, a case has been registered at Police Station Ganderbal under relevant provisions of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act and the Arms Act.
Police said investigations are ongoing to determine the origin of the seized items, the intent behind their movement and any wider links.The Ganderbal Police reiterated its resolve to ensure peace and security in the district and appealed to citizens to assist by sharing information related to criminal or anti-national activities.In a separate development, the Special Operations Group of the Jammu and Kashmir Police achieved another success on December 7 during a coordinated search operation in the Bhalara Forest area falling under the jurisdiction of Thathri Police Station in Doda district, a release said.Acting on intelligence inputs, the SOG team conducted searches in the forest zone and recovered one SLR rifle, two magazines and 22 live rounds, it added.
