Farmers in Punjab and Haryana on Saturday put up road blockades at national and state highways at most of the places as part of a nationwide 'chakka jam' in protest against the three farm laws and demanded these be withdrawn, causing inconvenience to commuters.

UN: Must protect rights to assembly, expression

Office of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights said the rights to peaceful assembly and expression should be protected. In a tweet, the OHCHR said with an India hashtag, “We call on the authorities and protesters to exercise maximum restraint in the ongoing farmers’ protests. The rights to peaceful assembly and expression should be protected both offline and online. It’s crucial to find equitable solutions with due respect to human rights for all.”
