Dry run of Covid-19 vaccine to begin in all states today: All you need to know

A dry run of Covid-19 vaccination programme will be conducted across all states and union territories today. The activity is proposed to be conducted in all state capitals in at least 3 session sites. Some states will also include districts that are situated in difficult terrain/have poor logistical support. Maharashtra and Kerala are likely to schedule the dry run in major cities along with Mumbai and Thiruvananthapuram.

The Subject Expert Committee of the Central Drug Standard Control Organisation on Friday has held that the data provided by Bharat Biotech for its coronavirus vaccine 'Covaxin' is not sufficient for grant of emergency use approval and has asked for more information, top sources said. The expert committee is tasked with vetting covid-19 vaccine proposals.

India moved closer to the rollout of its vaccination plan against Covid-19 with the subject expert committee of the drug regulator on Friday recommending emergency-use authorisation (EUA) for Serum Institute of India's "Covishield", developed by Oxford University and AstraZeneca. "DCGI approval will take another day or two," a source said. The first shots are expected to be given in 7-10 days .

India’s average daily tally of fresh Covid-19 cases fell below the 20,000 mark on Friday for the first time since July 2. The seven-day rolling average of daily cases stood at 19,545 on Friday, a day when a little more than 19,200 new infections were recorded in the country. The average had peaked at 93,735 on September 17 last year, a day when the highest number of daily cases were also reported (98,795).
